The sacred lines are crossed again. This leads me to a few questions and thoughts -
1. YouTube has become a powerful platform for an opposition to the ruling powers and to society. I can't think of any other platform or media or art form today, where a strong criticism is laid out so openly and bravely. The old media don't cross lines for obvious reasons. They have other interests.
If you don't know what I'm talking about here are some links as reference - the lead up to the election of 2024, the parents controversy and the presence of various creators willing to critique. I haven't kept tab on everything that's happening but these are the prominent ones. More than the leaders on the left and the ministers elected, Social Media is having a bigger opposition impact.
2. We should be extremely blessed to have YouTube and other forms of Social Media to provide a platform to voice out and strengthen Democracy. It keeps a check on power and balance. Just imagine a world without it! For all the calls to look inward, to our past, to our ancient wisdom, there's one thing that doesn't stand out enough to me. And that's freedom and check on power. We aren't grateful enough to San Francisco.
3. How long will YouTube continue to be free and accessible? There is increasing push back from the Government with take down requests increasing over the years. More recently, X sued the government over its take down requests. If push comes to shove, what will Google choose? Will it fight back or fold to protect its largest market?
This led me to also create a question on Metaculus Forecasting Website - https://www.metaculus.com/questions/36372/will-the-indian-government-ban-youtube-before-july-2030/
At the time of writing this, this question was still under approval. So if its not accessible its either sill pending approval or it got rejected.
